Theoretical Study on Freezing Separation Pressure of Clay Particles with Surface Charge Action

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study aimed to clarify the mechanism of effect surface charge clay particles on separation pressure between adjacent frozen particles. A general mathematical model spherical was given based extended colloidal stability (DLVO) theory; it introduced into frost heave process, and functional expression freezing temperature derived by using relationship pore throat’s radius temperature, which verified existing experimental results. Finally, effects mineral species solution concentration ice-lens growth were analyzed. Our results show that distance charged bodies is a single-valued function their pressure, but main factor affecting particles; proportional its surface-charge density. For same particle spacing, pressures kaolinite illite are not much different, they both about one order magnitude lower than montmorillonite; negatively correlated with concentration. When less 0.1 mol·m?3, negligible. The research can provide theoretical reference for improving geotechnical theory.

Charge freezing and surface anisotropy on magnetite (100)

Scanning tunneling microscope images of the (100) surface. of slightly nonstoichiometric -magnetite taken at room temperature show static arrays of pairs of Fe” ions with short-range order, and a charge fluctuation time greater than lo3 s. The surface appears to be a Wigner glass with electron pairs localized on adjacent ions as the basic unit. The explanation of Wigner localization at room tem...

An Experimental and Theoretical Study of Freezing of Pure Aluminum

In this work, Boltzmann transform has been used to analyze the problem of freezing of pure Aluminum in semi-infinite domain. The uniqueness of solution (solidification front location) has been proved using the characteristics of the functions appeared in solution. The effect of density change on temperature distribution and errors resulting from ignoring this change have been investigated. The ...

Adsorption of Two Pesticides on a Clay Surface: a Theoretical Study

The contamination of water resources with many organic xenobiotic compounds poses a challenge to environmental sciences and technologies [1]. Although in many cases these contaminants are present only in small concentrations, the large variety of such compounds (some of which are classified as priority pollutants) is a matter of concern. Adsorption, alone or as part of a more complex water or w...

Freezing, fragmentation, and charge separation in sonic sprayed water droplets

Water droplets are generated by sonic spray, transferred into vacuum through a capillary interface, and then passed through two image charge detectors separated by a drift region. The image charge detectors measure the charge and velocity of each droplet. For around 1% of the droplets, the charge changes significantly between the detectors. In some cases it increases, in others it decreases, an...

Effect of charge on separation of liposomes upon stagnation

Abstract Liposomes are used widely as drug delivery systems in different forms including nanosuspensions, osmotic pumps, infusion pumps and IV injections. Some of these systems (e.g. infusion or osmotic pumps) might stay stagnant for a long time during or before administration, and therefore, might face phase separation. In spite of these, there is no data available about the behavior of lipos...
